Environmental Health

Health involves more than the food we eat or the medicine that we take. Our health can be influenced by the air we breathe, the water we drink, and many other environmental factors. Interactions between people and the environment around us can dramatically impact our own personal health and the health of our communities.

How is the environment impacting your health and the health of your community? In this section, you will find resources to learn more about the ways that the environment impacts your health. We highlight issues that are important to Mainers. These issues are just a few of the environmental public health indicators that the U.S. CDC has developed to help us assess our health in relation to the environment. (Learn more about the CDC's project on environmental public health indicators here)

Environmental issues can be controversial, and everyone has their own opinion. Below, you will find links to organizations that may have different opinions on what problems exist and what should be done. The Maine Health Forum has developed this guide to help you identify resources and learn more. As you explore these resources, you can form your own opinions.
