Pollution and Toxic Substances

In 2007, the Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine tested 13 Mainers for toxic substances. They found 46 different toxic chemicals in the bodies of these test subjects (Body of Evidence Report).

Hazardous industrial chemicals are found in many common products, including toys, furniture, fabrics, perfumes, and shampoo. Harmful pollutants can also be found in the air we breathe or the water we drink.

Even a small amount of some of these toxic substances can be extremely harmful to the human body. Because of this, it is important that we find ways to reduce exposure to these substances. On this page, you can find resources to learn more about pollution and other toxic substances.
